Natural Fielder

Our first out-of-town vacation was a long weekend the end of May including several Seattle Mariners' baseball games. Seating was sparse under remaining covid protocols. So when a fowl ball came my way there were few other hands grabbing for it.

I reviewed twitter-likes for the next 24 hours. I'm not normally that vain but the circumstances were exceptional. Team marketing encourages the use of specific hash tags with the promise of highlighting some on the scoreboard or in the television broadcasts. I don't think I helped my odds by admitting I was sleeping.

Mitch Haniger was up in the bottom of the fourth with his swing at 1:38:25 into the game recording. The camera followed the ball as it bounced back and forth in front of and then behind and then to me in the seventh row.

The high fowl ball went over the netting separating me from the playing field and protecting me from an object traveling at 100 MPH. Ballpark staff arrived quickly to present me with the club membership card and hear specifically from me that I was not hurt.
